The patient presented to my office one day following a fall while climbing a flight of stairs.
She was unable to bear weight on her great toe and could not wear any close-toed shoes. The patient was treated over a 6 day period with a total of 4 treatments.
She was able to perform activities such as running and jumping exactly one week following
the injury.

Treatment day #1. The patient rated her pain 7/10, she was unable to bear
weight on the great toe, had apparent swelling and bruising, and
minimal range of motion (flexion 10 degrees and extension 2 degrees).
Her treatment consisted of 3 minutes of Class IV Laser, home icing, and
buddy taping.

Treatment day #2. Patient rated
her pain 5/10 and she was able to bear 50% of weight onto toe. There was a notable decrease in swelling, and improved range of motion (flexion 37 degrees and
extension 35 degrees).
Treatment day #3. Patient rated
her pain 4/10 and was able to bear 75% of weight on toe. Swelling decreased further and she was able to wear a lace up tennis shoe. Range of motion measured in flexion 45 and extension 35.
Treatment day #4. Patient rated
her pain 2/10, gait was normal and she able to bear 100% of weight on the great toe. Swelling was minimal to trace, and range of motion was measured in flexion 60 and
extension 36.
